Austin, Texas’ incomparable hardcore quartet Mugger have quickly made a name for themselves as a standout in the musically rich city. Comprised of members of Creepoid, Radioactivity, and The Well, they’ve garnered attention for their ability to blend influences from ’77 punk to blown-out hardcore.
Ideas about power and the inherent imbalance that often accompanies it is a theme that runs through the entirety of their catalog, along with their ethos of making room for everybody. “Mugger is for everyone,” says singer Anna Troxell.
The band recently finished an East Coast tour with the legendary hardcore band Negative Approach, and vocalist John Brannon is featured on their forthcoming album, Luck Forever, for Quiet Panic. Luck Forever was recorded by Daniel Fried and Patrick Troxell, mixed by Fried, and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air. It sees release on November 15. Preorder it here.
The band recently shared “Candy Apple Baseball” from the LP. Singer Anna Troxell says, “‘Candy Apple Baseball’ is meant to be a playful, tongue-in-cheek exploration of the ways gender becomes associated with objects that clearly are for anyone and everyone. Although this phenomenon can truly be infuriating, here I’m just trying to have fun with it and parody its ridiculousness. It’s brat.”
