Lontalius Shares “Tangerine”, Announces New Album

New Zealand-based indie pop singer/songwriter Lontalius (a.k.a Eddie Johnston) announces that new album Life on The Edge of You will release on June 9 via PBWH. The record was produced and co-written with Jeff Kleinman whose credits include “Cellophane” by FKA Twigs, “Chanel” by Frank Ocean and Beyoncé’s “Mood 4 Eva.” Along with the announcement, Lontalius releases the project’s third single “Tangerine,” a heartbreakingly beautiful track that expresses the apprehensive joy of finding the right person after a lifetime of negative relationships.

“Working with Jeff has almost certainly been the most productive collaboration of my career,” shares Johnston. “Lontalius has always existed in a space between different musical worlds. The collaboration with Jeff has been the closest and most exciting embodiment of that space. I’m the most excited about this project than I have ever been about Lontalius. It feels like a true step forward, and a true extension of what I believe Lontalius to be.”

Life on The Edge of You marks a dramatic departure from the soft lo-fi guitar-forward music Lontalius has primarily released before, successfully merging his confessional alt-indie style with Kleinman’s background in R&B/hip-hop production. Citing influences from Jeremih and Kehlani to Elliott Smith and Wilco, the new album is a snapshot of a queer man in his mid-20s navigating the highs and lows of love, loss and self-discovery. In typical Lontalius fashion, the songs on this record address the hardships of relationships, of coming of age, of finding a place, but this time, over often-glitchy, experimental electronic drum loops and synths.
