Dessa Shares Single "Call Off Your Ghosts (Live)"

Known for her solo work as well as releases with the Doomtree collective, Minneapolis rapper/singer Dessa shares the first single off her forthcoming live recording with the Minnesota Orchestra, Sound The Bells: Recorded Live at Orchestra Hall (Doomtree) which will be released November 8, 2019.

For Sound The Bells, Dessa and the Orchestra reimagine songs from previous releases, Chime, A Badly Broken Code, and Parts Of Speech, as well as stand-alone singles like “Grade School Games.”

Today she shares “Call Off Your Ghost,” arranger Andy Thompson, who is responsible for taking on such an ambitiously challenging project. The new album includes the full range of her work, from full-throttle rap bangers to literary ballads to infectious pop songs—all transformed and expanded into larger-than-life reincarnations designed to take advantage of the virtuosic talents collected on one stage. Led by Sarah Hicks (Principal Conductor of Live at Orchestra Hall), the Minnesota Orchestra’s performance allows Dessa’s voice and lyrics to blaze with new intensity.

Dessa is on the road now (dates below), making a series of literary readings and rounding out a season of club dates with her live band. Stay tuned for album pre-order information and the announcement of a new tour in support of Sound the Bells: Recorded Liveat Orchestra Hall.
