Corrina Repp Shares Cover Of “I Luv The Valley OH!”

Last month, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and guitarist Corrina Repp released her graceful new album Island, spanning everything from haunting folk to exploratory guitar to cinematic pop, via Jealous Butcher Records. Today, she returns with a new cover + video for Xiu Xiu’s classic “I Luv The Valley OH!” as the latest entry in revered indie label Kill Rock Stars’ 30th anniversary singles series Stars Rock Kill (Rock Stars)

Trading the original’s snarling, jagged edges with serene atmospherics and masterful, enveloping vocal harmonies, Corrina says, “There’s no one like Jamie. His lyrics, phrasing, vocal style. He couldn’t be further from how I sing a song. I’ve always struggled with cover songs, just wanting to leave well enough alone. I found a way to channel Jamie through my own voice and slow motion dismantling of the song. I hope I did it justice and perhaps put an entirely new emotional veil across this version.”

Currently based in Los Angeles, Corrina Repp originally emerged in the Portland scene where, across six albums, the critically acclaimed artist developed her sound and carved out a space for her music. Her latest full length, Island, is Corrina’s first self-written and self-recorded album, produced in a tiny apartment on a hill in Echo Park during a time of isolation at the start of the pandemic. Resonant and resolute, the album is suffused with peaceful energy, touching on universal themes while existing as a document of Corrina’s inner life during that time.
