Casual Hex, a three-piece band formed in the Pacific Northwest in 2015 by Erica Miller (also of Big Bite), Jessie Odell, and Nick Anderson, is about to shake things up! Rooted in post-punk, no-wave, and noise rock, the band’s sound thrives on the tension between heaviness and minimalism, catchiness and dissonance.
While difficult to define a direct influence, traces of Pylon, Unwound, A Frames, and early Sonic Youth come through in their dissonant but catchy style. Jessie’s driving bass lines lay the foundation as Erica’s commanding vocals cut through with sharp, narrative intensity. The lyrical content is heady and cryptic, often encouraging the listener to question human behavior and inspire positive change.
Casual Hex’s latest release features Anthony Beauchemin (also of J.R.C.G.) on drums, while Keegan Wiltshire joins them for their live performances. The group will release Zig Zag Lady Illusion II (Youth Riot Records) on June 13, 2025. Look for the band on the road with dates listed below.
