PuZL is the genre-agnostic duo of Taylor Lissandrello and Aaron Strickland. Forged in the far corners of the Caribbean, PuZL currently hails from Nashville, TN (by way of St. John, USVI.) Their debut full-length recording p i E c e S is kaleidoscopic, hypnotic compilation of mildly schizophrenic, subtly frenetic, and deeply engaging art-noise that blendselements of country rock, psych-folk, punk, spoken word, and absurdist performance art into something that feels genuinely new. Yet, beneath the irreverence are memorable hooks and sophisticated songwriting. An enigma, wrapped in a contradiction, is a puzzle worth solving (or at least trying to).

Having released p i E c e S this past month, PuZL has dropped the mind-bending video for “Flowers.” Lissandrello says, “The music video for ‘Flowers’ is the first of PuZL’s music videos that we didn’t do ourselves. A mutual friend introduced me to Shane Lubulgio of Sad Fuzz Studio. I saw his work and showed it to Aaron. We both loved it and felt his vibe and aesthetic matched the song’s gritty, abstract nature perfectly. I had a few ideas to add but in many ways, we let him take the reins, which is new for us. We couldn’t be happier with what he put together and we can’t wait to continue our creative collaboration in the future.”

While ostensibly new to the collective unconscious, their multi-genre musical brainchild has been a long time in the making. Over the past few years, they have been diligently curating and cultivating their sound with Allen Clapp (of Orange Peels fame)at Coral Star Studios in St. John. Home to Good Duck Records, St. John’s newest record label, Coral Star has brought most St. Johnian musical acts through its doors.

The seeds of what would become PuZL began to germinate in the late hours of the night after various recording sessions. Strickland and Lissandrello have both had major roles in the recording of over a dozen records produced at Clapp’s musical oasis on the shores of Coral Bay and would often sleep on the studio floor, so as to not separate themselves from the special magic of the session.

At the end of the day, Clapp would retreat to his bed while Lissandrello and Strickland would start writing. With Lissandrello on lyrics and vocals, Strickland on guitar, the two of them would work out arrangements and song structures. At first, there was no name, nor a desire to find one. They just kept writing and kept recording, knowing they were on to something special. Something different.

For the most part, just the two recorded all of the instrumentation and vocals themselves. When they felt something was needed, or they wanted to add a different artistic perspective they would reach into the pool of musical companions they had accumulated through the years. The archive kept building… 

They chose to stop recording at 27 songs, with 3 albums and 9 songs each under their belt.

They realized their time on St. John had come to an end. Starting on January 23^rd of 2026, PuZL has been releasing a single – and video – every three weeks. They will continue to do so for the foreseeable future. They make no promises that the habit will end. So strap in fellow sonic explorers, we’ve only just begun.
