TEKE::TEKE Shares Video “Meikyu,” Announces Album

The seven-piece Japanese psych-punk band TEKE::TEKE announced its debut album Shirushi (Kill Rock Stars) which is slated for release on May 7, 2021. Along with the announcement the group also released a ferocious single + cinematic video for “Meikyu” , which was animated by guitarist Serge Nakauchi-Pelletier & vocalist/actress/visual artist Maya Kuroki. Translating to “labyrinth,” the track tells the story of an escape from a haunted mansion maze, partly inspired by Japanese art-horror flick Hausu.

Shirushi (“sign of big changes to come”) was named after the Japanese practice of kintsugi — the art of mending broken pottery by fusing the pieces back together with seams of gold, silver, or platinum lacquer. The album glues together these pieces of classic Japanese balladry, surf rock, psychedelia, and more into sounds that wouldn’t be out of place in a Tarantino movie.
