Video Premiere: Cool American, "Soda Yoda"

With touchstones spread across the ’90s indie rock landscape, Nathan Tucker of Cool American lends off-kilter, impassioned vocals to the groovy racket of his clamorous compadres.
Cool American’s first record, Better Luck Next Year, was a collection of homespun, acoustic pop morsels (think: Elliott Smith, not Jack Johnson) that hinted at a slightly self-conscious and stifled pop ambition. On the project’s follow up LP, You Can Win A Few, Tucker enlisted a four-piece band, exchanging his Nick Drake-ian chord changes and self-effacing sensitivity for power-pop vigor and slack rock bleat.   The band’s new LP, Infinite Hiatus, weds the sheer songwriting quality and muscle of previous efforts, showcasing the sound of a young band coming into their own. The LP hit the streets via Good Cheer Records (digital/vinyl) and Top Shelf Records (cassette).
Today, the band premieres their playful video for “Soda Yoda” via Ghettoblaster Magazine. This is what Tucker had to say about it:
“The song is about feeling frustrated or uninspired by the things that normally bring you joy. It’s also meant to serve as a reminder to myself that that’s ok and totally normal [to feel this way].”
