Washington, DC’s Swings premiered the highly anticipated “Tiles” via The FADER, the first single from their upcoming album, Sugarwater. Due out on November 13 via the band’s new label, Exploding In Sound Records (with cassettes on Como Tapes),
Sugarwater is the young experimental pop band’s sophomore album, and second this year. Following the January release of their full length debut Detergent Hymns (released on Quiet Year Records), the trio decided to take some time off from their junior year of college to focus on their music and touring. Pushing the boundaries of their sound in new directions, Swings’ blend of jazz, indie rock, experimental emo, hauntingly twisted pop, and the punk of their hometown is something unique and altogether refreshing.
Speaking about “Tiles” and the song’s themes of dirtiness and repetition, The FADER offered, “Being twenty-ish is messy—you do a lot of shifting, shaking-off of old behaviors, feeling dirty, and trying to get clean—both physically and mentally. “Tiles” clocks in at under three minutes, but manages to exude both sadness and hopefulness in that short time.”
Swings will spend much of the Fall and Winter out on tour in support of Sugarwater, including a stop at this year’s CMJ Music Marathon on October 16th as well as dates with Mal Devisa, The Cradle (member of Big Neck Police), Sidebitch, and more. Check out the dates below.
