Since the early 1980’s, Chris Barrows has been one of the most entertaining and energetic front men in punk rock. He is the mastermind behind the Pink Lincolns, the Spears, 210 and his most recent endeavor, The Chris Barrows Band, just to name a few. If you are not familiar, now is the time to catch up because Rad Girlfriend Records is reisussing the Pink Lincolns classic Suck and Bloat LP (featuring art work by Iggy Pop) and releasing an LP from the Spears, as well as an EP from The Chris Barrows Band on June 29.
The Spears is super group and a who’s who of punk rock including Sam Williams from Down by Law, Gary Strickland from Hated Youth and T.J. Weeks from Grave Return who replaced previous drummers Hunter Oswald from Down by Law and Rob Rampy from DRI, who appeared on their first album, Shove. Spears started in 2007 with the People Are Bad 7-inch EP. Their new album is entitled Ghosts and features appearances by members of Black Flag, the Queers, Screeching Weasel, the Adolescents and more.
Chris Barrows and guitarist Dorsey Martin formed the Pink Lincolns in 1986. The band has released five studio albums, one live album and many EPs as well as split 7-inches with Screeching Weasel and the Queers. The Pink Lincolns are arguably one of the most influential punk bands of their era. The Chris Barrows Band started in 2014 and comes from Barrows hometown of Tampa. Their live shows highlight the insanity and frantic, high-pitched craziness that is Chris Barrows.
