Song Premiere | Heavy Seas, ‘Obfuscate the World’

The Chicago-based punk/emo trio Heavy Seas release its highly-anticipated sophomore album,  Distortion Days (Rad Girlfriend Records/Little Rocket Records) on January 26, 2024, which you can preorder here. The album is a sonic journey that solidifies their standing in the alternative music scene, and not only showcases the band’s evolution but also cements their unique sonic identity.

One of the standout features of Distortion Days is the band’s lyrical depth. Exploring themes of self-discovery, existentialism, and the turbulence of modern life, the poignant lyrics resonate and invite listeners to reflect on their own experiences.

Musically, the album captures the essence of Chicago’s punk and emo heritage while pushing boundaries within both genres. Additionally, the production quality is pristine, courtesy of renowned producer J. Robbins (Jawbox). The album’s sound is both polished and raw, allowing the authenticity of Heavy Seas’ performance to shine through.

Today the band premieres the second single from the album, “Obfuscate the World.”

Heavy Seas’ Jeff Dean says, “I wrote this after a heavy conversation I had with someone I really care about, about her separation and eventual divorce.  We tend to block all of these tragic things out of our minds because we don’t want to accept the reality of them.”
