Additionally, Anderl’s ’90s era ska band, Krusty Watch Guys is playing a reunion show at Blind Bob’s in Dayton, Friday, June 24 with Duderus, Dip Spit and The Linus Method.
The 1984 Draft, in particular its primary singer/songwriter Joe Anderl, has enjoyed the opportunity to support a broad and diverse a list of nationally and internationally recognized musicians over 20 years as a singer/songwriter. To name just a representative sample, he’s supported everyone from indie rock heavies like Maritime, The New Amsterdams, The Wrens, Murder By Death, Limbeck and Ink and Dagger, to celebrated songwriters like John Vanderslice, Richard Buckner, party rocker Andrew WK, and even hardcore heavies Everytime I Die and H2O. He’s also toured regionally and nationally alongside Adam Torres (Fat Possum) and The Gunshy (Sleep Recordings), and as a member of The Kyle Sowashes (Anyway Records) and Waking Kills The Dream (ex-Morning Again, ex-Twelve Tribes, Goodlife Recordings)
His current project The 1984 Draft, which includes drummer Justin Satinover, guitarist Eli Alban, and bassist Charles Heck, are a passionate quartet that channels alt-folk sensibilities through a ‘90s emo and indie lens. This is definitely recommended for fans of The Replacements, Smoking Popes, Soul Asylum, Sugar and Cheap Girls.
In 2014, The 1984 Draft released their latest EP, Bo Jackson Up The Middle, via We Want Action (84 Nash, She Bears, Tiara). The EP was recorded at Popside Studio with Micah Carli (former guitarist for Hawthorne Heights) in mid-January, 2014.
The band premiered a video teaser for “Clear Heads Full Hearts” produced and directed by Mike Postalakis, who has been responsible for videos from Guided By Voices, Wussy, Swearing at Motorists, DTCV and more.
Their EP saw the light of day in advance of the release of an NFL Network documentary on the actual 1984 NFL Draft, in which the band is featured. NFL Films captured them live in the band’s hometown on January 10, 2014. The documentary aired on April 30, 2014 on the NFL Network.
2015 found The 1984 Draft as one of 24 Ohio bands being featured on the 10th anniversary Aquabear Legion double vinyl compilation, and they released an EP on November 6 on Gas Daddy Go! (GBV, Swearing at Motorists, Smug Brothers) titled Heisman Trophy Winner.
