On The Road Again: Origami Ghosts

Origami Ghosts

Origami Ghosts

Seattle, Washington’s Origami Ghosts, the edgy, folk-based pop project of songwriter John Paul Scesniak, just released their new LP.  To support the LP, the band is taking their imaginiative, heart-on-sleevey show on the road.  Ghettoblaster caught up with Scesniak a few days into the tour to ask him about the travels.  Here’s what he told us…
What kind of vehicle are you travelling in, and what are you doing to outfit it for maximum comfort?
Sassafrass Samantha Savana the fiery red chariot — otherwise known as the 98 GMC Savana Conversion Van. It’s pretty comfs already, didn’t need to add much more comfs.  Put a roof rack/cargo box on top to create some more space, took out a seat, and added a carpet as well. Put up Tibetan peace flags and it already had limousine lighting so we’re good to go.

What is the planned playlist for your travels?
Nigerian 70s pop, Warren G., Michael Hurley, the Pandora David Bowie station,
Surf Club & Filbert (Stockton faves), and Pure Bathing Culture.

Which of the cities that you’ll be visiting are you most excited about and why?
New Orleans, Baltimore, never been; Asheville (we get to play with recently located cellist Shivani Patel again); Santa Fe and Taos, never been and excited to witness this turquoise phenomenon; Savannah, I hear Wet Willy’s have some fine daiquiris; Detroit, homecoming for Kara and Jim; and Ft. Collins, homecoming for Kelly.

Which of your destinations are you most anxious about?
Amarillo, TX…the great unknown.

Which of the bands you’ll be playing with are you most excited about seeing? Diners (PHX), Tiger Waves (Austin), the Sundowners (LA), Viking Moses (Baltimore, DC), Lac La Belle (MI), and the Mythics (Detroit).

What are the top three essential, must-have items that you take on the road with you?
Honey, Yerba Mate (Brian), our instruments.

What will you miss most about home while you are away?
The cats and the kids.

Do you keep a diary during your travels?  If so, is it public?  Can we share it?
Not yet, but we’ll start a blog soon and keep you in the loop!

What is the crazy thing you’ve seen on the road during this or other tours?
Last tour our drummer got possessed by a ghost in Jerome, AZ.
