Minnows Shares “Make Us Soldiers”

Minnows shares the second single from their forthcoming debut. Penned during the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020 and featuring a Fugazi-esque, jugular-punching sense of urgency, “Make Us Soldiers” challenges the listener to take action: “Break to other voices. Abandon hate.”

Minnows is Sean Gardner, Ben Schreiber, Adam Lowe, Philip Cogley, and Alex Weinhardt. “Make Us Solidiers” was ngineered by Sean Gardner at Bruising Speed, produced by Minnows, mixed by Jon Markson and mastered by Dan Coutant at Sun Room Audio.

Longtime veterans of the Columbus, Ohio, music scene formed Minnows in early 2020 and started laying the groundwork for the first few tracks on their forthcoming debut, Foreign Moon.

The loneliness and despair of pandemic life, a national reckoning with systemic racism and police brutality, and a bitterly divisive election served as ample fodder for the album’s alternately sensitive and stinging lyrics: “Long arms, rifles and some makeup / They are fakers that just act it out / Chin up, bury fists in pockets / We’ll have chances where we vote it out.”

With influences ranging from indie rock, power pop, and emo; to alternative metal and indie folk, Foreign Moon offers a sound that is immediately familiar, yet entirely original. As musician and producer Jon Markson (Drug Church, Such Gold) puts it, “Minnows craft nuanced and groove-laden walls of guitars and vocals that evoke the best of the melodic peak of rock in the ‘90s and early aughts.”
