Kid Koala Shares “Floor Kids Megamix”

When you toured with heavy hitters like Radiohead, Beastie Boys, Arcade Fire, and the legendary A Tribe Called Quest, life isn’t so bad for you.  Scratch DJ and producer Kid Koala has been lighting up crowds all over the world with his visionary, heart stopping tunes.
Currently, Kid Koala (aka Eric San) is preparing to release Floor Kids Original Video Game Soundtrack on April 27th via Arts & Crafts – a 42-track project featuring 71 minutes of original instrumental hip-hop and break music from the award-winning video game, Floor Kids.  In anticipation, Kid Koala shared the 18-minute “Floor Kids Megamix”, which contains a  wild helping of cuts mixed live on mixed live on three turntables.
“I recorded this shortly after receiving the test pressings of the Floor Kids Video Game Soundtrack vinyl,” San said regarding the project. “This is a live mix that will give you a taste of some of the grooves and battle tracks on the record. I labeled the 12 o’clock point on each record with some stickers and just hit record, needle dropping, quick cueing, and back spinning loops as you would do when deejaying at a break battle. There are also a few spoken word elements from the games story cutscenes scratched in there, which reveal some of the in-game philosophy that will help you become a better player/dancer/human!”

The concept of Floor Kids was originated by Koala and animator JonJon.  The breakdance battle game has already garnered several awards for its interactive gameplay, innovative control system, and vibrant animation.  As for the music, San provides original music with influences of silky ‘70s funk, to thumping ‘80s 808s, granular ‘90s 12bit hip-hop, and 00’s synth funk.
Floor Kids Original Video Game Soundtrack is available for preorder in limited edition 2LP gatefold vinyl and digital formats, and includes a download of the “Floor Kids Megamix.”  As for Koala himself, he will be starting the “Vinyl Vaudeville: Floor Kids Edition” tour on April 26th, a special expanded version of his road-tested variety show, including a traveling arcade:
