Album Stream | Original Son, Currents

Southern California is known for warm beaches, plastic faces, and the kind of music that talks about one or the other side of the illusion, the illusion or what lives behind the glitz and the glamour. Original Son lands firmly in the latter camp, serving up melodic punk rock truths since 2018.

Now they’ve partnered with Sell The Heart Records to release their debut album, Currents, which was recorded at the Canyon Hut in LA’s fabled Laurel Canyon, and produced by Tim Hutton. The effort sees release tomorrow, February 17.

“We wrote Currents in the pressure cooker that is our world right now; not to say we know how to fix everything, but to try and capture the moment as a way to process the pain, loss, and hope that we are all facing day in and day out,” says vocalist, guitarist Johnny Calderwood. “A lot of the songs are about reclaiming our humanity in a time where cruelty is so prevalent and a warped sense of individualism is destroying our connections and making enemies out of friends. And… there are a couple of dancey numbers in there too. We are excited to put this album out with Sell the Heart and are grateful for the opportunity and all the support they’ve given us. Currents was a cathartic blast to make and we really hope everyone loves it as much as we do.”

Fans of Dead to Me, Anti-Flag, Bouncing Souls, Hot Water Music will admire Original Son for continuing the tradition of pulling no punches while ensuring their melodies get burned into your head. Additionally, Lou Koller of Sick Of It All contributes vocals on “Well’s Run Dry.”
