San Diego’s post-punkers Tigers In Cairo have a new single out that serves as a victory lap after winning the 35th annual San Diego Music Awards “Best New Artist” award across all genres. An august institution, the SDMA are a local music-industry-voted honor. Past winners include Blink-182, Jewel, P.O.D., Jason Mraz, and Slightly Stoopid.

Recently, the band released its first new song of 2026, ‘Just My Luck.’ It’s a reflective love song about self-growth as the ultimate act of devotion. It’s filled with what TIC have become known for- earworm guitar hooks, an anthemic chorus, and a propulsive groove. Accompanying the single is their first official video, featuring the band performing at a local speakeasy and turning a dour affair into an uncontrolled and joyful indie rock dance party.

Previously, the band has played Furnace Fest and dozens of shows across California. Critics have noted that the band “perfect the art of San Diego Punk Rock,” creating songs where “a top 40 producer could have written a catchy hook like that, but the song hasn’t lost its edge.”

Comprised of vocalist David Martin, drummer Matt Yansch, bassist Daryl Thompson, and guitarists Gavin Rhodes and Paul Skura, TIC continues to prove they are the “local supergroup San Diego’s been waiting for.”
