Uh Huh Her Shares Blistering Version Of Sonic Youth’s “Kool Thing”

Uh Huh Her is the beloved electropop duo – Camila Grey and Leisha Hailey – that helped define the indie sleaze era and inspired contemporaries like Metric and Dum Dum Girls. They are back and ready to beckon a new generation of fans to the dance floor with the re-release of their 2011 classic, Nocturnes. The reissue, titled Nocturnes: Redux, is due out August 7 via Kill Rock Stars across digital platforms and as limited edition goth confetti vinyl.  The band recently shared “Shook” their first new song in 12 years and now they unleash their blistering interpretation of Sonic Youth’s Iconic feminist protest song, “Kool Thing”. Leisha explains, “It’s our love letter to this perfect feminist punk manifesto. We lead with Kim’s lyrics confronting patriarchal structures highlighting “fear of the female planet”. We deliberately left the male responses out. They’re absent by design. We’ve heard enough.”

Nocturnes: Redux features the never-before-heard original mixes by super producer Tchad Blake (The Bangles, Arctic Monkeys, Sheryl Crow, Cibo Matto), plus two never-before-heard songs: new song “Shook” and a cover of Sonic Youth’s classic “Kool Thing.” “I chose Tchad’s first and second mix attempts because I wanted to preserve his first instincts before we gave him a million notes,” says Cam. “This is truly how he heard it on one or two tries. The songs are longer, they’re more rocked out, they’re a little more raucous.” The entirety of those original mixes have never seen the light of day until now.
