Singer, songwriter, and producer Cavetown (Robin Skinner) has announced the release of his brand new single “Tarmac,” available everywhere today. The track arrives ahead of his highly anticipated new album Running With Scissors, set for release on January 16, 2026. Preorder the album HERE.
“Tarmac,” co-written with longtime friend and collaborator Orla Gartland, captures the dualities that define Cavetown’s new era: bright and tender melodies laced with raw confessional honesty, grunge-soaked guitars that collide with crystalline vocal harmonies, and moments of disarming vulnerability that nod to both hyperpop unpredictability and post-hardcore intensity. Lyrically, it wrestles with the complexity of love, longing for permanence while fearing its loss, and pushing back against the spiral of intrusive thoughts that surface in the aftermath.
About the song, Skinner says, “This song is the earliest to exist from the album. It’s one which lyrically just fell out when Orla and I wrote it together. We had to kind of figure out the meaning after letting the words choose themselves. We found it feeling relevant to the feeling of overwhelm and the experience of intrusive thoughts, which can come hand-in-hand for me. I hope people find something in Tarmac which resonates with their own experiences.”
The new single follows the warmly received “Rainbow Gal” and “Baby Spoon,” each of which teased the sonic and emotional range of Running With Scissors. Across the record, Cavetown reflects on growth, identity, and the shifting terrain of adulthood, weaving themes of masculinity, love, and connection with a candid look at anxiety, self-doubt, and the process of self-parenting. If his earlier work offered sanctuary, Running With Scissors is an unflinching confrontation, an album that dares to step outside the bedroom walls and face the mirror directly.
