The Black Heart Procession Returns With “Following,” Announces New Release

San Diego based band The Black Heart Procession announce their signing to Solid Brass Records today, sharing the first single from the upcoming digital/streaming release of the band’s Hearts and Tanks EP, which will be available on September 19, 2025. With the announcement of the new label signing and release, the band shares the first single, “Following.”

The Black Heart Procession took root in San Diego in 1997, when Pall Jenkins (vocals, guitars, synths, etc.) and Tobias Nathaniel (piano, guitar, organ, etc.) put their previous band, Three Mile Pilot, on an open-ended hiatus. The duo has been joined over the years by a revolving cast of musicians including drummer Joe Plummer (Modest Mouse, the Magic Magicians), drummer Zeke Howard (Love As Laughter), bassist Jimmy LaValle (The Album Leaf) and violinist Matt Resovich (The Album Leaf). The band’s line-up has expanded and contracted, but at its heart and soul remains Jenkins and Nathaniel, creating timeless, heart-wrenching classics that are adventurous, eclectic, and consistently brilliant.

In July of 2024 the band toured Italy and Greece followed by a full US tour in November of 2024 with Modest Mouse. The band recently announced they would join Modest Mouse on their upcoming Ice Cream Floats cruise from Miami to the Dominican Republic in February 2026 along with Kurt Vile, Tropical Fuck Storm, Portugal. The Man, Mannequin Pussy, Ugly Casanova, and more.

In July of 2025, Solid Brass Records partnered with The Black Heart Procession to begin work on a couple soon-to-be-announced projects. To kick things off, on 9/19/25 the band’s Hearts and Tanks EP will be available on all streaming platforms for the first time ever. Originally tracked in 2003, and released on the UK label Shingle Street, the band locked themselves inside Stereo Disguise Recording Laboratories for 72 hours resulting in this 4 song collection.
