Video Premiere | Civil Rebellion, “Meet The Reaper”

Set for release on September 13, All at Once marks a transition for Civil Rebellion. The six-song EP – recorded, produced, and mastered at The Brickyard Studios on Bainbridge Island by the magician himself, Johnny Bregar – is a collection of songs relating to themes of independence: stepping into the real world and taking control. But with every new beginning comes adversity, and that’s what All at Once became; a journey into a new reality.

Today Civil Rebellion has dropped the video for their single “Meet The Reaper.”  Rhythm guitarist/vocalist Noah Wossene talked about the single and video concept below:

“‘Meet The Reaper’ is a song about a misconstruction of an individual. In this case. I used the example of the reaper. A guy who is portrayed as some “all-evil entity.” When in reality. He’s not! The reaper is just the individual there to take one’s soul and pass it to the afterlife. A mailman if u will.

I once again got together with my good friend and videographer (Gabe Nathan) to give him my idea of a concept for the reaper video. He didn’t hesitate to get to work. With creative twists and turns with a more solid concept locked in, Gabe was able to put together an amazing story about the reaper in modern-age society. You’ll see the reaper (Zeke Weiss) at first being rejected and shunned for who he is. Disrespected and disregarded as an individual. But as the story continues, he makes a friend. A true companion who now understands the challenges he faces every day. Another good friend of mine (Nick Pecora) played this role as the reaper’s new found glory and savior.

At first, defeated and angry for the reaper had taken his father’s soul right in front of his face. Soon understands the reaper’s true job. Not a murder. But as a middleman to life and death.

Nick takes a chance on the seven-foot-tall “dark” entity and takes him along on a new journey in his life. One where he’s accepted for who he is. Not for who anyone THINKS he is to be.

I thoroughly enjoyed the final version of this video because it doesn’t follow your typical music video guideline. Which is exactly how we set out to do our motions. Gabe being an experienced filmmaker and director is nothing shy of a mastermind. We click so effortlessly because of one very specific common ground. We BOTH see music videos as a story plot. That’s how I see my songs. That’s how I even see my track lists for releases. That’s what’s so cool about our collaborations. We create a genuine fresh story for a song. Not a motion with a song. A motion for a song. A completely separate piece of art. And we are thrilled to share it with you all today!

Massive thank you to Gabe Nathan, all our amazing extras and of course the full production team for making this piece come to life. Enjoy the music video for ‘Meet The Reaper’!”

All at Once is not just a “random collection of songs.” Like every Civil Rebellion release, it has a theme.  All at Oncecaptures the nascent understanding and learning that accompanies moving forward into an independent adulthood. The step where you know in ATTEMPT is to find your OWN balance as an individual.

Of course, as one would expect from Civil Rebellion, All at Once is nothing less than another head-banging and body-swaying release. Written in the four walls of lead singer (Noah Wossene’s) bedroom, the record is presented with the same notion as any release of theirs. The imaginative freedom allows everyone and anyone to interpret and digest these songs for whatever their desired enjoyment might be.

If there’s one thing the band hopes you gain from this EP, tt’s some form of joy and connection with these songs. Whether that be a memory from the past or a present-day emotion, they hope it leaves you in comfort and pleasure.

Whether it be the new and improved energetic driving guitars by lead guitarist (Rowan Gano), Wossene, or the smashing drums of (Duncan Thompson). Accompanied by the powerful low end of former bassist Bryson Bernardin, this is a record that will keep your chest thumping.

All at Once is more than certain to leave you feeling satisfied from all departments. Keeping the fine balance of joy tempered with the bittersweet, all laced through with their signature energy, all you have left to do is kick back. Turn up the volume. Dig in.
