The Bronx close out 2021, a year that saw the SoCal rock band release the critically-acclaimed album Bronx VI (Cooking Vinyl) and a national tour with Dropkick Murphys and Rancid, with a blistering, Tim Armstrong (Rancid)-directed video for “Breaking News (Live).”
“What can you say about working with a legend like Tim Armstrong?” remarks Bronx singer Matt Caughthran. “As an artist and musician he is completely in a league of his own. Recording the live version of ‘Breaking News’ with Tim was everything a punk recording should be; Fast, Live, and Real. We hit it off right away and getting him to shoot the video in that classic black and white Rancid style was icing on the cake.”
Armstrong also partnered with the band for the artwork accompanying the 7-inch “Breaking News” single. As The Bronx have done for each track on Bronx VI, they’ve offered a limited-edition 7-inch with a companion merch collection (Thebronxxx.com). The band has also made a point of including artists they enjoy and admire to be part of the process. From Dogtown’s Craig Stecyk’s unique glyphs showing up on a Bronx VI skateboard, to LA-by-way-of-Australia duo DabsMyla’s striking imagery for “Superbloom,” U.K. graffiti artist/typographer Gary Stranger’s artwork for “Peace Pipe,” a “White Shadow” themed NFT in associated with cult punk/hardcore/Dead & Co. graphic designer Jeremy Dean, an Estevan Oriol-directed video for “Curb Feelers,” and most recently, a trio of original paintings by tattooer-turned-designer Tokyo Hiro were inserted randomly in the “New Lows” singles.
