th1rt3en, the new project fronted by New York emcee Pharoahe Monch, along with drummer Daru Jones (Jack White) and renowned guitarist, Marcus Machado, unleash the blistering “Cult 45” single/video, the fourth single off the group’s debut album A Magnificent Day For An Exorcism (Fat Beats Records), out January 22, 2021.
It’s no surprise the band releases the song during inauguration week. Monch himself describes the song as “verbal voodoo” and wants it to speak to an exorcism from hyper-consumerism and political corruption, with 45 only as a backdrop for a commentary on the entire system. Considering he will only remain as an afterthought going forward, it seems apropos.
The band also gave their first live performance on their dynamic NPR Tiny Desk Concert, released on Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
