Runnner (Los Angeles-based songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist Noah Weinman) has been on the move this year with a mad dash of striking new singles, including “Coinstar,” “Spackle,” and “Chamomile.” Today, Weinman is finally ready to reveal where he’s been heading: the announcement of his sophomore full-length, A Welcome Kind of Weakness (Run For Cover Records), due out August 29th. 

A Welcome Kind of Weakness emerged from a simultaneous tear in Weinman’s body and life. Written during months of bed rest and recovery from a torn achilles tendon, compounded by the drastic upheaval of a breakup, the album feels defined by change and fittingly, Runnner’s sound has undergone a drastic sonic shift to accompany it. Foregoing the home-recorded crackle of his previous work for a widescreen sound reminiscent of the early 2000s indie rock boom, A Welcome Kind of Weakness‘ hifi bombastlends Weinman’s songwriting a new immediacy without sacrificing the intimacy of his earlier material. 

To mark the announcement Weinman has shared the album’s massive opening salvo, “Achilles And” a track that perfectly captures both the lyrical and musical scope of Runnner 2.0. The song immediately roars to life with raw guitars and pounding drums that make it clear this is a bold new version of Weinman’s songwriting, but his trademark aching vocals and vulnerable lyricism still shine through.
