Mark Mallman returns with his 11th studio album, Magic Time (Hygh Tension Records (TLG)/Virgin Music Group). To celebrate, Mallman has shared a video for the single “Freaks Me Out” and will perform tomorrow at a free in-store event, 2pm at Lucky Cat Records in Minneapolis.
“I invented a bunch of different characters, each freaky in their own way, to show how multifaceted fear can be. Which ties into the end of the song, where I sing a laundry list of things to be afraid of,” notes Mallman. “It was important that the video not actually be scary because then you can’t deconstruct it as clearly. Which is true for the song itself – I’m talking about the twilight zone and silence of the lambs, but it’s a goth-disco track.”
