Afro-Cuban soul sensation Daymé Arocena (@DaymeArocena) has released the new single “Mean.” It is the first single to preview her upcoming EP ‘Daymé y yo’ which will be released on May 30. The award-winning singer-songwriter also celebrates a major milestone in her career with an exclusive deal signed with BMG — with ‘Daymé y yo’ marking the first release under the new partnership.
Daymé originally wrote “Mean” when she was a teenager but couldn’t find the right time to release it until now. “It was my first blues song,” Daymé shares. “It is from a moment when I discovered that the blues can be a superpower for me. Few things make me feel more at my center than singing and writing from that corner. It brings out my wildest, most irreverent, and most real self.”
‘Daymé y yo’ is a 7 song EP which features previously unreleased songs as well as intimate versions of her most iconic tracks. It includes just vocals and piano, recorded live in Mexico City. The EP is the testimony of an artist who, since childhood, wrote music as a form of expression—and of a voice that gave those feelings life through song. ‘Daymé y yo’ is an open letter to the duality that lives within a single soul: the artistic being and the human being of Daymé.
