Afro Cuban star Daymé Arocena has released the new single “Suave y Pegao” featuring Puerto Rican urbano artist Rafa Pabön. The song is available on all digital music services via Brownswood Recordings. It is accompanied by an official video directed by Joshpapi.
“’Suave y Pegao’ came to me as a revelation at 3:33 in the morning,” Daymé explains. “It was in a dream, the same night in which I had discovered that there are reggaeton musicians that listen to rumba. We come from the same matrix.”
“We both come from two very different worlds,” Rafa says. “But in this collaboration there is a fusion of bossa nova and jazz with a more urban side, and they end up fitting together very well. I really enjoyed working with Daymé because she is a super talented and versatile artist.”
“Suave y Pegao” previews Daymé’s upcoming album which was produced by the acclaimed Puerto Rican artist Eduardo Cabra (Calle 13), three-time winner of the Latin GRAMMY for “Producer of the Year.”
“I’m proud to say that Daymé is the most talented person I have ever worked with,” Eduardo says. “It was a bold and tender move for Daymé to choose this experiment just as she was settling in her new life in Puerto Rico.”
“Suave y Pegao” follows the recent single “Para Mover Los Pies.” “Para Mover Los Pies” is an ode to Daymé’s new home of San Juan, Puerto Rico. It fuses local Boricua rhythms with Cuban traditions.
