Soft Riot is JJD; a former Vancouverite who has clocked in around twenty years of musical output in various bands and projects, including half a dozen art-damaged punk and hardcore bands as well as first-wave post-punk revivalists Radio Berlin.
Moving from Vancouver to London UK in the late 2000s, Soft Riot came into full being, having released a couple of acclaimed albums and EPs and staging numerous tours around Europe. Soft Riot has currently set up camp for the time being in Sheffield, a small UK city with a history of innovative synthesizer music.
Drawing inspiration from synthesizer-based film soundtracks of yesteryear, drones, early EBM, minimal synth, a dose of psychedelic synthpop and a heavy dose of throbbing appregiated rhythms, Soft Riot is a science-fiction heavy soundscape that narrates the listener through today’s fractured, excessive landscape with hints of black humor. You Never Know What Might Come Next, which drops in September via Exhibition Records, is the latest album by Soft Riot, further honing an atmospheric synth pop sound that was starting to be explored on the sophomore album, Fiction Prediction and after a brief detour on the third album of more instrumental soundscapes Some More Terror.
Soft Riot will be embarking on numerous live dates throughout Europe starting late 2015 and into 2016 starting in October, including dates with legendary Belgian synth group, and peers of Front 242, Parade Ground.
Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of premiering both the video for the album’s title track, as well as the song. Enjoy:
