In the fall of 2016, Rachel Thode was looking to better herself as a drummer and all around musician.  After posting up on the internet and the proper social media outlets her search for someone that would meet her requirements, guitarist/vocalist Kelli Redding was one of the first to respond.  As it turns out, the pairing quickly found a common bond with their taste music as they jammed together in Thode’s basement.  Now with bassist Ian Gorby (who replaced original member Liz Slocum), Slow Glows released their debut EP back in October of last year titled Star Trail.  Songs from the EP have been picking up some traction from various radio outlets, and blogs.
Ghettoblaster is proud to premiere the video for the single “Sodapop”.  Like most of the Star Trail, “Sodapop” highlights a low-fi, DIY aesthetic.  Heavy on shoegaze influence, the vocals are soaked with dreamy pop sound.   Slow Glows are barely scratching the surface on what’s to come with their overall approach to their music.

“The opening riff of ‘Sodapop’ is my absolute favorite thing to play. I wanted to write something really familiar and really abstract that had the hazy, sun-drenched nostalgia of a classic shoegaze ballad, but that also had the kind of subtle pop melody that would appeal to just the casual music listener. I wanted the muted vocals because that gives it a sort of fleeting quality, like a fragment of something half-remembered from a dream. I had no experience with videos prior to filming and editing this one, but I like the DIY aspect of it because I feel that the end result is very authentic and very “me.” I shot it around my home in Dayton, KY and in downtown Cincinnati. The lyrics are a bit nonsense but I think they reflect the monotony of day-to-day routine juxtaposed with the thrills and escapism that can be found in just, well, daydreaming. It’s really just me trying to make sense of who I am and how I feel at this point in my life and expressing that through music.”
“Sodapop” will be released on 7” vinyl as their debut single on Rose Hill Records.
