PLEXXAGLASS is a genre enigmatic musical tour-de-force led by singer-songwriter Alexa Joan Rae. The project’s debut singles are battle cries; brutally honest accounts of hatred and battles with mental illness.
Joan Rae came equipped with her director?s hat for the video for “Ana Thema,” which Ghettoblaster has the pleasure of sharing today. It is the story of a ghost who came to Alexa in her dreams, asking her to tell her harrowing story of sexual abuse. Told with breathtaking choreography (Leila Zandy) in the age of #metoo— it is a story that is all too familiar.
This is what Joan Rae had to say about it:
“I was visited by a ghost, but not in the way you?d think; this wasn?t your traditional haunting. The #metoo movement was fresh on everyones’ minds — I?d come forward about my experience with an ex-boyfriend from my high school years. Then Ana came to me, dressed in turn-of-the-century garb, pale as a ghost, in what I can only describe as a lucid dream, and she told me her story. We were by the sea and she was about to drown herself. She made me promise to tell her story, so that?s what I?ve done here. And hey, it could?ve been just a dream, this story could be fiction, but I think we can all agree that it?s not at all unfamiliar.”
PLEXXAGLASS owes a debt to producer Kevin Billingslea (The Halo Studio, Maine). His collaboration with Rae has been pivotal to establishing a one-of-a-kind sound, leaving most unable to place it in a neat box. Only officially launched in the Fall of 2016, PLEXXAGLASS refuses to slow down, refuses to stay quiet, and is more determined than ever to be heard.
