Blake Skidmore began writing this new material after moving away from Ohio in the winter of 2016 while experiencing a major transition between leaving his home base of Columbus and writing with a band there. He was living abroad, making music on his own, and anticipating a move to a farmhouse outside Louisville that summer. It was the first time in his life that he’d really been a stranger. The songs on the EP came resulted from that transition. When he arrived in Kentucky, it felt really natural to reconnect with the people in Columbus who had been his collaborators for so many years.
Influenced by acts Jason Molina, Damien Jurado, Neil Young, and Sparklehorse, he deliberately created a dreamy, round-edged, and layered sound that spotlights the emotions and lyrics of each song. Running Dream, his forthcoming effort, deals with themes of family, transition, dreaming about the future, and what it means to be from a certain time and place.
To date, Skidmore has had the opportunity to support some really great artists, including, Phosphorescent, Richard Buckner, Matthew Milia (Frontier Ruckus), Saintseneca, and AA Bondy. He will be supporting the album’s release with a series of live dates in the Midwest, throughout the summer of 2018 – with release shows in both Louisville, Kentucky, and Columbus, Ohio in April (below).
