Futurebirds share "Hotel Parties," tour (2015)

Futurebirds revealed the title track “Hotel Parties” off their new album due out September 25 (Easy Sound). Paste premiered the track saying, “we’re not exactly strangers to Futurebirds’ distinct strand of Southern rock. From their standout 2012 full-length Baba Yaga to their consistently mind-blowing performances, we’ve seen that this Athens, Georgia band knows how to deliver. So naturally, we were thrilled when they announced the forthcoming Hotel Parties, an LP that dabbles in the duality of life on the road as it relates to the constant beckoning of home.”

Thomas Johnson said of the track, “This song is metaphorical, so I’ll avoid delving too deep into the symbolism of everything.  At it’s core, I’m relating life to a Hotel Party.  Sometimes all you want to do is let loose and forget about the hard stuff.  Sometimes that lulls you into a false sense of security.  Sometimes what you think you need is the last thing in the world that you need. Sometimes a hotel party isn’t a party at all.  Everything you do, everything that is said, you take part of all that with you when you’re on the road. There’s an emptiness to partying with strangers you know?  …ultimately it’s ‘onto the next town’ and the ‘towns slow fade into the haze behind us.’ It’s about longing for this lifestyle, but resenting it at the same time.”
Hotel Parties is the  follow up to 2013’s Baba Yaga and is the band’s first release on the Easy Sound Recording Company label.  Futurebirds have previously shared album track “Deadbeat Hits” of which the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy said, “with a descending figure on steel guitar and King’s hazy vocals, the twangy tune has a genial summertime feel as it scrolls by, accompanied by scenes of the musicians playing in the studio and clowning around outside.” Before that Futurebirds released  “twentyseven” and Stereogum noted bands often live two separate lives: their life on the road and their life at home. Athens twangers Futurebirds’ new album, aptly titled Hotel Parties, revolves around balancing these two lives, trying to keep one from destroying the other – sometimes unsuccessfully.
Hotel Parties is now available for pre-order and will be available digitally on CD and vinyl.
