Ancient Ocean shares "Beargrass Creek," readies Blood Moon

Ancient Ocean‘s debut LP, Blood Moon, is due out June 30 on Beyond Beyond is Beyond Records, and now you can stream the expansive second track “Beargrass Creek.” Clocking in at 14 minutes, the song features guests Aaron Martin on cello and bowed banjo, Craig Schenker on sax, and Destruction Unit’s JS Aurelius on processed piano, with Ancient Ocean’s J.R. Bohannon handling synths and guitar. He also incorporates processed field recordings from the actual Beargrass Creek — down the street from where he grew up — to create ambient, enveloping soundscapes.
You can stream “Beargrass Creek” where it premiered with
NPR and share the track via Soundcloud.
J.R.’s upcoming release comes as a follow-up to a handful of CD & cassette EP releases, with the LP format giving him more room to stretch out and fully realize his sprawling landscapes. The album’s four tracks come in at over 41 minutes, delivering swells of synth and hazy, droning instrumentation, with plenty of atmospheric space in between.
Blood Moon will be released digitally and on CD & vinyl, and is available for pre-order now.
