It had to happen,  Ty Segall is releasing a covers album called Fudge Sandwich on October 26th via In The Red and in the midst of a solo, acoustic tour (all dates are below). With Fudge Sandwich, Ty celebrates his disparate musical influences by covering some of his favorite songs from his record collection — everything from John Lennon to Rudimentary Penigets the Segall treatment. In some cases, the renditions remain fairly faithful to the original, while in others, he completely turns the song on its head. There’s no better example of the latter than Ty’s take on the 1977 punk rock classic “Class War” by The Dils. Fronted by brothers Chip and Tony Kinman (who sadly passed away earlier this year), The Dils were often referred to as “California’s The Clash” and their song “Class War” was one minute and forty-three seconds of slash n’ burn punk aggression. Ty has taken the song and turned it into a melancholic ballad that’s no less impactful than the original but in a totally different way. The song’s lyrics are as poignant today as they were forty years ago. Chip Kinman has given it his seal of approval and says, “Ty Segall answers questions that Tony and I never even thought to ask with his version of ‘Class War.’ I LOVE it!”
