Rising to prominence in the ‘90s, The Softies’ spindly, lofi sound paved the way for countless vulnerable songwriters to come. This Friday (8/23), the beloved duo of Rose Melberg and Jen Sbragia will release The Bed I Madevia (Father/Daughter)—the first Softies record in 24 years. Today, the band also shares the album opener “Go Back In Time.” The single pulls from themes of longing and is about missing past versions of yourself from bygone eras. “I’m missing you / And wanting to / Go back in time,” the pair wistfully harmonize over blunt electric guitar strumming in the chorus. Endearingly understated, it shows that, in their time away from the spotlight, The Softies’ have only grown more invitingly tender.
On the single, The Softies share:““Go Back in Time” started as a song about a missing a faraway loved one but then also became a song about missing former versions of ourselves, longing for the familiarity of a time that is long gone.”
