What’s your town’s nickname?
Killer City. But lately I’ve heard the term “Methleham” a lot for the vast amount of meth rock found in Independence MO.
Why do you live there?
The friendliest people ever. Not much of a pretentious attitude to be found with anyone here, like just about every other city. I grew up here, and never want to leave.
What is your favorite local attraction (monument, park, etc)?
The Buzzard Beach (bar).
What is your favorite local event/festival?
Once a year they have a Greek festival in Overland Park. That is a very fun festival. I get wasted and eat greekfood, while watching 38 year old greek mamas seductively dance to music.
What is the best time of year to be there?
Spring.
Who is your favorite local celebrity/personality?
Brody Croyle. I believe once Carl Peterson’s bitch ass, along with Herm Edwards and the offensive coordinator are removed, and a great offensive line is there to protect him, he will be the next Brett Favre. Big up Brody Croyle. Great playing as of late.
Where is the best place to drink and what’s their specialty or happy hour?
Houlihan’s 24 hour hour. It’s not my favorite place to drink, but happy hour is 24/7.
What is your favorite place to see live music and what was your favorite show there?
The Uptown Theatre. I saw Bad Brains play there many years ago when I was still in highschool. Best shit I’ve ever seen.
What is your favorite local band?
THE CES CRU/ Reach/ The Esoteric/ Lucid/ FLEE THE SEEN/ APPROACH, MILES BONNY, SPLITLIP RAYFIELD (rip)
What is your favorite diner or restaurant and what is their best dish?
Jack Stack BBQ, Crown Prime Rib. Best bbq in the world. Literally.
What is your favorite record store and what was your best find there?
Best Buy. The Best of Paul Simon.
What is your favorite local shop?
PHENOM.
What is your favorite local publication (alternative weekly, zine, website or blog)?
Pitch Weekly, or the Overland Park Sun when Holly Kramer writes the article.
