Squirrel Nut Zippers Return After 18 Years Share "Karnival Joe (From Kokomo)"

After 18 years of silence, the Squirrel Nut Zippers return, once again bringing that revitalized swinging jazz vibe. But they’re not a simple cookie-cutter mainstream version of what you might have believed they were, are, or will be. Influence primarily by cats like Johnny Ace, Cab Calloway, Fats Waller, and even Tom Waits, The Zippers anthemic songs captivated audiences worldwide.
While the group hasn’t released new material since 2000’s Bedlam Ballroom, it seems the Squirrel Nut Zippers haven’t lost a step. They share the new song “Karnival Joe (From Kokomo)” off Beasts Of Burgundy (Southern Broadcasting), out March 23rd, 2018. According to the band, this first single comes directly from lead man Jimbo Mathus’ interest in carney folk.  “I’ve always been fascinated by Sideshows and carnivals,” says Mathus. “Karnival Joe was inspired by an obscure recording from Dr. Souchon and from reading about the old Cayetano Circus Of New Orleans.” Beasts Of Burgundy is twelve original new songs from the mind of Jimbo Mathus and the Squirrel Nut Zippers.  Inspired by the city of New Orleans, the poet Ron Cuccia, and a disregard for convention.

The 9-member outfit hits the road today in support of its upcoming release and has shared the album’s track listing and tour dates below:
