Spoils System Shares ‘Subtle Amends’ From Sophomore Album

Hudson Valley, New York band Spoils System rev up the engine on “Subtle Amends,” the band’s first single from its forthcoming sophomore album, The Nope OutThe Nope Out sees release via Sweet Cheetah Records on July 11.

Spoils System was formed in 2021 by Dan Coutant (vocals, guitar, keys), Sean Hansen (guitar, background vocals), David Fateman (bass) and Mark Frankel (drums). Notably, Dan and Sean have roots in the indie/emo outfit Joshua who released albums on Doghouse Records in the early 2000’s, and were handpicked for tour support slots with legends of the day like The Get Up Kids, At the Drive-In, The Stereo, Jets To Brazil, Shift and many more. Sean also played a major role in the writing and recording of the album Welcome The Night by The Ataris,  which was released in 2007 by Sanctuary Records.

On their second album “The Nope Out”, they seem to have hit their stride with a never before heard blend of shoegaze and power pop reminiscent of artists like Blinker the Star, Elliott Smith, Utopia, Swervedriver and Death Cab For Cutie.

Engineered by J. Robbins, Tom Hill (Bookhouse Studio, London), and Paul Carabello, the album also includes a two-song collaboration with drummer Kellii Scott from the band Failure(“Force For Good” and “Hall of Forgotten Names”)
