Song Premiere | Wenches, ‘Kick It Down’

Wenches returns July 11 with its second full-length album Stupid Sick following up 2021’s highly praised Effin’ Gnarly/

Recorded by Carl Byers (Idiot, Graveripper, Usurp Synapse) and mastered by Don Fury (Quicksand, Helmet, Sick of It All), Stupid Sick is a full-throttle, rock and roll ripper of the highest caliber. If you love Motorhead, MC5, Dead Boys, and The Stooges, this is the adrenaline shot your heart and ears have been looking for. Order it here.

With two of the four members having been from former notable Midwestern noise punks Racebannon and Medusa, the heaviness has been turned up and the dynamics dialed in more than on previous output. Special guest stars on the album include the legendary Chad Price, vocalist of ALL, Drag the River, A Vulture Wake as well as the versatile Jonathan Newby from bands Brazil, JC Autobody and heavy supergroup Fixation Arc.

The band shares another single from this barn burner, this time a Girlschool cover.

About ‘Kick It Down,’ vocalist James Bauwman recalls:

“In the fall of 1993, I stood in line at a favorite local record store for the advance midnight release purchase of Vs., the second, and one of the most successful, Pearl Jam albums. When it was my turn to walk through the door and grab my copy on CD, I said, ‘can I actually buy that new ALL album over there instead?’ as I pointed across the room to Breaking Things, the latest ALL record featuring new vocalist, Chad Price. ‘This is only for buying the new Pearl Jam CD,’ I was told. ‘Just go grab it for him, he comes in here a lot,’ another employee remarked. ‘So, you don’t want the new Pearl Jam CD?,’ I was asked. ‘Nah, just ALL,’ I replied.

“I told that story to Chad the first time I met him, hoping I didn’t come across as too much of a dorky fanboy. So, as you can imagine, I was beyond stoked, and still am, that Chad agreed to contribute vocals to our version of the classic Girlschool track ‘Kick It Down’ thirty-two years since I first heard him belting out iconic hits like ‘Original Me’ and ‘Shreen.’ Chad’s voice added just the right amount of ferocity the track needed.”
