Song Premiere: The Abyssmals, "Death Row Messiah"

You and your gal have gotten all dolled for a night out on the town.  The first stop is to get some milkshakes and burgers at the local diner.  As you walk into the establishment, you grab a seat within one of the booths that are situated next to the extended window.  A deep sigh is released from your mouth as you take inventory of the surroundings.  You are relaxed because you are in your element.  In your coat pocket is a pack of slim cigarettes. You grab the carton to pull one out for yourself and your gal. The first hit off the lit cigarette eases you into a state of euphoria. Coming from the speakers is the rich sounds of chilled out, toe-tapping music that send you off into an ultimate haze of satisfaction.

This my friends is what you envision when you are listening to Schenectady, New York’s own The Abyssmals.  Providing the picture perfect soundtrack to a Quentin Tarantino film, The Abyssmals draw inspiration from those that captured the raw essence of surf, blues, shoegaze, punk and soul.  By doing so, this five member ensemble collectively send you sensibilities into another psychedelic dimension.

The Abyssmals are set to release Gospels, Hymns and Other Trash!, which is slated to drop April 19 on Five Kill Records.  Recorded back in the fall last year, the band wanted to make sure that they hone on their sound that was cemented from their self-titled demo back in 2016.  Today, the band is releasing the single “Death Row Messiah.”  Evoking a “Stones meets Stooges” feel to the song, the band recounts the story featuring on a dead man walking as seen through the mind of another dead man walking.  “Death Row Messiah” rolls on with confidence that paralyzes you in a good way.  Fans of Netflix’s The Punisher will recount hearing this rocker from the second season, episode nine.
