Exceeding everyone’s notion of what music should be, Here Lies Man, featuring members of Antibalas, ready the release of their sophomore release You Will Know Nothing (RidingEasy Records) on June 15, 2018. In anticipation of the album, the band premieres the track “Fighting” where the band continues to explore and question, “What if Black Sabbath played Afrobeat?” It’s a fair question considering the band’s sonic exploration contains a heavy delivery accented by the sound created by Fela Kuti.
“We’re very conscious of how the rhythms service the riffs,” explains founder and vocalist/guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Marcos Garcia (who also plays guitar in Antibalas) of the band’s sound. “Tony Iommi‘s (Black Sabbath) innovation was to make the riff the organizing principle of a song. We are taking that same approach but employing a different organizing principle: For Iommi it was the blues, for us it comes directly from Africa.”
Here Lies Man shows no sign of slowing down and fans & newcomers alike are sure to succumb to the sound the band continues to explore and create.
