The waterfront city of Rochester, NY sits right across from Ontario Canada, separated by the body of water known as Lake Ontario. Thinking of our neighbors to the north and upstate New York, images of Niagara Falls and tourism are what normally come to mind. In the last few years, cities further north of New York City have laid claim to Hip Hop, most notably with Westside Gunn, Conway The Machine, and Benny The Butcher out of Buffalo, N.Y., as well as Scorey out of Syracuse, and Rochester’s 38 Spesh. Up next making a way for himself with a handful of albums and single releases is Rochester emcee Curtis Coke.
Coke has had a decade-plus career of recording music under his belt, which also includes performing and recording under the monikers of Curt Laisi and L.I. Today Curtis Coke shares his new single “F’k What They Talk About,” a track produced by Kidd Called Quest. While Coke becomes reflective on the track taking listeners down memory lane, Kidd laces it with thick drum beats and soulful melodies.
