Song Premiere: BLUNDERBUSST "Monarch Of The Mountain"

Comparisons may be cheap but imagine if Aimee Mann decided to pick up Adam Franklin’s guitar and made the most lucid decision to create songs within a spectrum of sound where the only prerequisite was listed as, “Challenging post-dreamy shoegaze.” Couple that with clever songwriting that digs much deeper and one will already be able to imagine the sound BLUNDERBUSST makes.

Taking their name from the Blunderbuss, which is a short firearm that shoots a large caliber and flares at the end of the muzzle, it doesn’t begin to describe the group. It’s quite the opposite. The Reno, Nevada trio has had a long storied history and has been on a self-imposed hiatus for the past 5 years but now returns invigorated and revitalized.

BLUNDERBUSST is set to releases its new double 7″ single, filled with 6 tracks, on August 8th, 2019. Today the band gives a taste of the release with the premiere of “Monarch Of The Mountain,” which is quite exquisite in its delivery and performance. The cooing harmonies are accentuated with a heavyhandedness at times by the group’s instrumentation.

“I had been thinking about how my Mom, who died in 2012, and my Dad, who came out as trans in 2015, had perpetuated a fantasy of what ‘happily married until the end of time’ meant. It’s a fantasy I tried to emulate, a fantasy that had, since my Dad came out, been blown to pieces. A fantasy that, once dispelled, pulled into sharp relief all my strengths and weakness and a clear way forward as neither King nor Queen, but a non-gendered Monarch, standing atop all our triumphs, mistakes, hopes, and fears.” – Jen Scaffidi, BLUNDERBUSST
