BEL HAVEN is the cinematic pop project of Los Angeles-based artist-producer Dom Liberati. A multi-instrumentalist, Liberati combines classic sounds from ’80s icon’s such as The Police, Depeche Mode, and Peter Gabriel with today’s top vibers ala Tycho, Tame Impala, and M83.
The project, launched in 2016, was sparked by a random meeting on Sunset Strip between Liberati and Portland, Maine songwriter Darren Elder (The Wrecking, Crusoe, Zayde W?lf) a few years before when their respective bands ended up on the same bill at Viper Room. After a brief conversation out on the sidewalk, they clicked and exchanged info. It wasn’t until a year later when Darren invited Dom to The Halo studio in Portland, Maine for some writing sessions that the project took form
Dom ran with the inspiration, cranking out more tunes with the same flavor. In a few months time, he found himself on stage at Hollywood’s famous Sayers Club, debuting the new tunes in front of a packed house. One show turned into a monthly residency at Sayers for the rest of 2015, while new songs were being fleshed out on both coasts.
The live band features a flexible and rotating roster of LA session and touring greats, just the way Darren and Dom first envisioned. With Lucy Graves (Black Eyed Peas, Will.I.AM, Cee Lo Green) typically manning the keys and backing vocals, Jim Briggs (Shelea) and Benjamin Hazelett (Echosmith, Colby Caliat) on guitars, and Miche’le Baptiste (Fifth Harmony) or Matt Musty (Grace Potter, Jake Clemens) on drums. Liberati spotlights his unique talents as a bassist-vocalist frontman, holding down the low end and propelling the melodies with brute force on both.
Today BEL HAVEN premieres their latests single, “Call It In The Air” via Ghettoblaster and you can enjoy it below.
