Song Premiere: A Happy Death, "Wet Dreams"
Born in the midst of a sleazy, dark New York winter, A Happy Death began touring the Eastern seaboard, before relocating to the Pacific Northwest, and Portland, Oregon specifically, to deliver their blend of driven garage-rock to a scene they felt devoid of the melodic noise they could make.
Releasing their self-titled, debut 7? in 2011, the band found themselves at home in Portland, receiving laudatory press from the likes of Portland Mercury and The Deli Magazine. Embarking on a West Coast tour in the winter of 2012, A Happy Death found themselves the subjects of a documentary, which exposed the vivacity of the band and the unrefined lifestyle of their do-it-yourself life on the road. The film will be released to coincide with the festival circuit and the band’s forthcoming debut LP, Factory Life. Following the release of Factory Life winter 2014, the band will hit the road yet again to play to the new, familiar, and bewildered.
Currently the band are gearing up for a run of dates with Ohio’s Cadaver Dogs, which features our dude Christian on bass. To celebrate the tour, A Happy Death have allowed Ghettoblaster to premiere their song “Wet Dreams”. This is what guitarist/vocalist Ryan Lella said about the track:
“Wet Dreams” is a song written in a first person point of view of a guy who is obsessed with a woman who is uninterested. From the first line “we’re skating on thin ice,” or the chorus “I think I’ll go back to sleep, rather be dreaming,” etc, suggests the main character is truly in love with the girl and makes us feel sympathetic for this guy. However, it isn’t until the line “maybe you know how you feel now, all I know, I wanna kill you. I’ll keep your heart, I’ll use an axe.” At that point, it becomes more clear this isn’t really a love song. It’s really about a man who is more of a stalker than a love interest. The creepy janitor in your office building who is slightly attractive, but a total weirdo. He was never with her, never told her his feelings for her. He watches her, dreams about her, maybe even has pictures of her, but she is unaware.
We recorded the track at The Magic Closet in Portland Oregon. It was engineered by Jeanot Lewis Rolland and produced by A Happy Death and Jeanot Lewis Rolland. A majority of the equipment used to record this track (as well as the rest of this album), including the microphones, amps, mixers and instruments, were selected for tonal qualities and were mostly of vintage type.
Here it is kids!
