Song Premiere | Nick Kizirnis, “Stars In Your Eyes”

Today, Dayton, Ohio-based Nick Kizirnis shares his latest single, “Stars in Your Eyes,” from his forthcoming album Every Moment (ATOM Records), out May 1, 2024. It’s Kizirnis’ first indie-rock music since his work with Tobin Sprout (Guided by Voices), and features the explosive rhythm section of Jim Macpherson (The Breeders, Guided by Voices) and Daisy Caplan (Foxy Shazam, Lung). Tod Weidner (Motel Beds) and Kate Wakefield (Lung) round out the song with textural guitars and backing vocals over a downbeat song about finding and holding onto love in a world made up of existential crises.

Kizirnis is a songwriter and guitarist with a distinctly moody indie-rock/Americana sound refined over decades of solo and collaborative musical experimentation. A musical trailblazer with a diverse track record both on and off stage, he has recorded with The Breeders (“The Dirt Eaters”) and opened for a wide range of bands including The Pixies, Man or Astro-Man, Dick Dale, Dave Alvin, and Fugazi, had his songs feature on Reality TV shows like LA Tattoo, Road Rules, and The Real World. He has released two albums with The Mulchmen and several solo albums.

Building on influences ranging from Link Wray to The National, and from Guided By Voices to Neko Case, Kizirnis’ penetrating lyrics and atmospheric guitar have been winning the hearts of a growing and diverse global fanbase. His music’s innate relatability is more poignant than ever in the context of his latest singles. The creation of the new album itself echoes the catharsis his music induces in those enduring life’s rockiest roads.

“Stars in Your Eyes” was recorded remotely during the depths of lockdown and finalized in person with Macpherson, Caplan, Wakefield, Weidner, and Kyleen Downes. The upcoming album also includes guest appearances by Paul Livingston (Trash Can Sinatras) and Sprout.
