Today, Philadelphia trio Rid Of Me delivers Sleep Tonight, which includes two new single covers of Interpol’s “PDA” and Shellac’s “Prayer To God.” The noisy rock quartet tackled both tracks with clever interpretations and bursts of energy fans have become accustomed to. While most covers of rock songs tend to lack originality in delivery, Rid Of Me doesn’t falter. With “PDA,” the band takes the Interpol track, originally released on the band’s debut Turn On The Bright Lights, and smothers it with distorted guitars, a mechanized rhythm turning the song into its own. With “Prayer To God,” the band turns the Shellac track, off of 1000 Hurts, into a bludgeoning masterpiece!
The digital release is apay-what-you-want and the band is also sending a cassette of the release to all who donated to the group to help them offset the cost of a van accident it had on tour back in April.
