Helado Negro returns with This Is How You Smile (RVNG Intl), an album that freely flickers between clarity and obscurity, past and present geographies, bright and unhurried seasons. Miami-born, New York-based artist Roberto Carlos Lange embraces a personal and universal exploration of aura – seen, felt, emitted – on his sixth album.
Following Lange’s personal-as-political 2016 album ‘Private Energy,‘ ‘This Is How You Smile‘ finds vitality in turning the privacy dial further inward. Lange describes the latest single “Pais Nublado” as “an escape into curiosity.” “It explores ideas of cloudy places, in particular, our ‘cloudy’ country, and uncertain futures,” he continues. “The song is about knowing you’ll be around longer than the people who don’t take the time to understand what you’ve been doing. I feel like that’s been my personal experience with the music I make. This is a dedication to endurance and knowing that I’ll never be worried about rushing. I’ll take my time and find my way.”
Helado Negro begins its tour in February (dates below) and the new album drops soon after on March 8.
