Hala Releases 7" Single "Sorry" // "More Than Anything"

Ian Ruhala is a 21-year-old singer/songwriter from Detroit, Michigan. He started his project, Hala, in 2014, as a junior in high school. Back then, he was intrigued by the idea of recording at home, because the task itself seemed like a stand-alone art form. In 2016, he put out his first, full-length album Spoonfed. He recorded the whole album in an attic in Detroit, which he was living in at the time. Outside of the tiny window in his “room,” he could see the Motown Museum from his side of the street. “That was always an influencing view, and I think it inspired me to try to recreate something Motown-esque in my vocal recordings.”
Hala shortly toured as a guitarist for fellow Detroit artist Anna Burch and his breakthrough single “What Is Love? Tell Me, Is It Easy?” has reached over 1 million streams on Spotify. Today, the Bedroom Pop artist releases  “Sorry,” a vibrant track with buoyant guitar riffs, and the smooth, mellow jam, “More Than Anything” via Jett Plastic Recordings. “I recorded these songs with a $50 microphone, in an incredibly uncomfortable studio apartment, on the North End side of Detroit. These songs were an experiment for me to see just how far I could take my limited production knowledge.” The release comes ahead of his Summer tour with BOYO.
