Austin-based alternative country band, Coleman Jennings and the Roaddogs, deliver — “Head Spinnin’” — the third single from their forthcoming debut five-track EP, Know No Leash, set for release on Friday, January 27.
With acoustic versus, “Head Spinnin’” has a tuneful arrangement accompanied with the intricacy of Travis guitar picking and poetic vocals leading up to a sweetly satisfying chorus backed by piano and drums. Undoubtedly, the track shines light on Coleman’s abilities as a composer and perceptive lyricist, who is wise beyond his years.
For a song of such depth, Coleman reflects on its humble beginnings, born out of a simple jam session with a friend in his dorm room. “It’s amazing how some of the best songs come from such nonchalant beginnings,” he shares. As for the inspiration behind the lyrics, Coleman opts to give listeners space to tie their own meaning to the track, he notes: “The lyrics are more poetic than most of my other songs – especially the bridge. I’m quite happy with how they turned out, and I’d rather leave them open to interpretation than explanation.”
Composed of Coleman Jennings (vocals, lead guitar), Finn Dickens (piano), Jake Boswell “Jenko” (drums) and Bob Troyer (bass), Coleman formed “the Roaddogs” during his sophomore year at the University of Texas at Austin. Characterized by seamless vibrato, tranquil tones, narrative-driven lyrics and euphonious arrangements, they began recording Know No Leash in April of 2022 at Moon Lab Studios in Dripping Springs, TX, with every song written, composed and produced by Coleman himself.
“With no producer, I can make every musical decision myself. Every guitar lick, every key change, every chord progression is my own,” says Coleman. “The band operates their instruments with full independence. We’re not opposed to signing a record deal or working with others, in-fact we would love to. But for now… this feels right.”
